petitgrain essential oil

  • Botanical (and family):
    Citrus aurantium var. amara. Family Rutaceae.
  • Distribution:
    Native to Southern China and Northeast India. Oil is produced in France, North Africa, Paraguay and Haiti.
  • Description of plant:
    An evergreen tree with glossy dark green leaves and fragrant white flowers.
  • Extraction:
    Steam distillation of the leaves and twigs.
  • Charactersitics:
    A pale yellow, rather mobile liquid of strong, bitter-sweet, woody-floral odour and fresh citrus notes.

  • Properties and indications:
    MIND
    Gives assurance when feeling down and refreshes the mind. Has a soothing action on emotions.
    BODY
    A nervous system sedative, could aid anxious states, easing breathing and relaxing muscle spasm.
    Could act as a mild immuno-stimulant. Helpful for painful digestion.
    SKIN
    Could help in clearing up skin blemishes like pimples.
  • Other uses:
    Fragrance component in soaps, detergents and perfumes, especially colognes.
